Jonny is well known to Worcester Warriors fans as a homegrown success story having started playing within Worcester RFC Mini Juniors aged 7.  He played throughout his education at Royal Grammar School (RGS) going on to obtain a first class degree from the University of Northumbria in Leadership & Management. During his 12 year career with the Warriors he won international honours as part of the England Under 20 team that achieved the Grand Slam in the Six Nations of 2008.

Following 217 senior appearances since graduating from the club’s academy in 2007,  Jonny finished his full time rugby career with the Worcester Warriors in April 2019 with a move to Birmingham Moseley RFC. Over the last 12 months, Jonny has kept busy finalising his qualifications in the financial services sector.

Jonny was approached by several financial services businesses but chose to work with long standing local firm, Financial Advice Centre Limited to launch his new career. He joins Financial Advice Centre Limited as a qualified Mortgage Adviser working alongside the newly merged mortgage team headed up by George Roberts, Mortgage Director and Piers Mepsted, Managing Director.

Managing Director, Piers Mepsted said:

“We are thrilled to have Jonny join our team. It can be challenging to navigate the financial services industry with ongoing changes in regulation and legislation. Managing clients’ financial outcomes carries with it a great deal of responsibility and pressure. Jonny’s fastidious preparation and clear foresight are showing him to be a safe pair of hands both on and off the pitch in helping clients plan and fulfil their investment objectives.

As well as being a clever guy, Jonny genuinely wants to help people and see them succeed.  That personal integrity is very important for building and restoring trust in our industry. We have a high bar for those joining our business and Jonny ticks all the right boxes and fits in really well with our team.”

Jonny wants to do more than just offer face to face financial advice and is starting a blog and email series about his progress and what’s happening in the industry to help those seeking advice.

Jonny said:

“Transitioning out of professional sport was always going to be a challenge for me as it’s been my sole focus for many years. The experience I gained in professional rugby plays out well in financial services and in making big life changes. I also really like working with people and developing successful strategies, so that helps too. I am seeing that being passionate, focussed and driven can carry you wherever you want to go.”

“I think this is the case for many of the challenges people face and an important component of positive mental health too. I hope my journey can inspire or help others by seeing an example of someone taking the plunge into something new.”
